APW Science Club presents environmental research at NYC Symposium

A group of Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Science Club students presented their long-term water quality research at the Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF) Student Symposium, held May 22 at Mercy University’s Dobbs Ferry campus in New York City.
Students Zym Goodberry, Collin Hallock, William Francisco, Annaleah Wejko, Piper Hall, and Breeana Phillips showcased research they’ve been collecting for the past one and a half years through a detailed poster presentation.
In addition, the group was one of only four schools invited to deliver a live presentation in front of the entire symposium, a major honor highlighting the strength and significance of their work.
The CELF Student Symposium marks the culmination of the Civic Science: Inquiry to Action program, which empowers students to explore environmental and social justice issues through hands-on, community-driven science projects.
“This trip was a great learning experience and a fun memory for our students,” said Science Club advisor Jessica Halsey. “For many, it was their first time in New York City, and they especially loved riding the train.”
The students’ research and presentation served as a testament to their commitment to environmental awareness and civic engagement.
